(c) As soon as the first candle flame

As soon as the first candle flame
Turns darkness quickly bright,
The longing grows in us again
For sanctuary and for light.

Two candles on the advent wreath
Bring quivers of delight;
Yet still it’s a long way to go
Until the Holy Night.

Three candles on the wreath of green –
Beholding candle light,
Our hearts recall some wistful scenes
Before our inner sight.

At last, four candles on the wreath
Our hearts beat with delight
The holy night is almost here
And children’s eyes shine bright.
